1. John the Baptist did not leave the scene when he should have, and thus began to compete with Jesus, when he insisted on continuing baptizing in the same region. The gospel of John emphasizes that this occurred when: “he had not yet been imprisoned”. Anyone who hinders Jesus’ ministry may sooner or later end up in prison (John 3:22-24).
2. Any of us, even having been greatly used in the past, runs the risk of clinging to popularity, high concept and acquired followers, losing the simplicity of following the Spirit in new directions and dispensations. Even though we have been used a lot in the past, when the Lord changes His way of working and gives a new direction, attachment to popularity can be very harmful (Matt. 16:24).
3. We need to renew ourselves for this new phase to which the Lord is introducing us. A new wine, as it has a lot of fermentation power, needs to be placed in a new wineskin, as the old wineskins cannot support the fermentation of the new wine and end up bursting. We need to be new wineskins to receive the current task from the Lord!
4. “In the new man there is no separation, but Christ is all in all (Col 3:11). God, with His word, wants to fill us with Himself, to fill the Body of Christ with Christ Himself, until He is all in all. That is why we have been practicing immersion in the word.”.
