1. Following the Lord implies losing freedom, denying oneself, one’s own opinions, comfort and privileges. A price must be paid to have Jesus in charge (Mt 16:24-25).
2. The cross is not intended to highlight our scars caused by suffering or to strengthen our ego. The actual experience of the cross has a mortifying effect on the old man. Do not be governed by the soul-life but follow the Lord closely through the word taught by the apostles (2 Tim. 3:10-11).
3. Do not deviate from what the Lord is saying today, this is our greatest security to remain firm and healthy (1 Cor 15:58).
4. Zeal for the house of God must consume us just as it consumed the Lord Jesus. I must live in this reality with great determination and be resolute (John 2:17) (Daily Food, Book 4, Week 2, Friday, p. 34)
