DAILY IMMERSION IN THE PROPHETIC WORD Saturday | Mess. 21 – Do Not Think It Strange Concerning the Fiery Trial Which Is to Try You

  1. Jesus learned obedience through suffering. If this was the case with Him, it is even more so with us. We must obey the faith, the word, God, and the truth; we must act according to the word of God. God is making Christ our leader, until Christ is the head over all things, but first over the church and over each one of us. The word of God is the best weapon, because it destroys our arguments. Our submission to Christ is the basis for God to punish all disobedience (Heb. 5:7-8; 2 Cor. 10:4-6).

  1. Peter asks the elders to shepherd the flock. When Paul was passing through the cities, when he returned, he established elders in the churches. There was only one church in each city and only one presbytery. The apostle is the one who establishes the elders. The apostle established elders in each city, who are the more mature brothers, the elders. They are to shepherd the flock. Paul called the elders of Ephesus bishops; in Greek, “episkopos”, that is, “overseers.” They are the ones who shepherd the church. They are the same person: elders and bishops. The function of this person is to shepherd the flock. In the second century, there was a separation of this, but it is not biblical (1 Pet. 5:1-2; Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5; Acts 20:17).

  1. Some would go astray among themselves. The elders are appointed and remain subject to the apostle. The day-to-day affairs are left to the care of the elders and they continue in the fellowship of the word of life. The direction of the word comes from the apostle. We practice the word of life and follow it closely (Acts 20:30).

  1. On the other side of the degradation of the church is the church in Philadelphia, the one that has little strength: “I know your works; behold, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; and you have but a little power, and yet you have kept my word, and have not denied my name” (Rev. 3:8). (Daily Food, Book 1, Saturday, p. 35).
