- There is a struggle to occupy our hearts. Satan uses the world as a weapon to do this, because the heart cannot be occupied by two masters; it is either occupied by the world or by God. Only the word of God fully satisfies us (1 Pet 2:11-12; 1 John 2:15-17).
- The enemy wants to occupy man’s heart and deceive him into believing that he can find satisfaction in what is earthly. In Ecclesiastes, King Solomon says that he experienced all kinds of pleasures that the world can offer and came to the conclusion that everything is vanity, there is nothing new, the search for satisfaction of the soul is vain (Eccl 2:10-11).
- The frantic search for satisfaction in the world brings only fatigue and weariness. Only the Word of God can meet the human soul’s need for satisfaction. Only the word that God is speaking each day to His church gives satisfaction and direction to the soul (1 Peter 2:1-2).
- The church was created, but it must be built up. For this, Christ needs His bride to be adorned and prepared. It was for this purpose that man was created (Song 1:5-11; 2:10-11). However, it is clear that, since its conception, the church has faced battles on its way to being built up. Therefore, just like Peter, John, Paul, and the Lord Jesus Himself, we must be equipped with the word to face the battles and be bold in promoting the work of God (He who has an ear, let him hear. Lessons from Sardis in Revelation, Background I, p. 13).
