1. The Gospel of John starts with the Word: the Verb. In Eternity past, God had already made of His son the Word. Christ is the Word even before the creation.
2. God desires to communicate with the creation starting with us. Man was made in the image and likeness of God to communicate with Him, to receive His unsearchable riches. Christ is the Word which shows God’s desire of communicating; in other words, His desire to transmit His life to man.
3. God’s life is the content of the Word. To transmit this life, God first created all things. Then the Verb was made flesh, the Word one day became man. As such, He lived, died on the cross, and for our redemption, He shed blood and water. The water represents the dispensing of God’s life to us, through the Word with the purpose of generating the Church.
4. Even after having generated the Church, the Lord continues to supply us with His life though a vehicle which is the Word, thus producing the building up of the Body of Christ.
