1. After the Reformation, God’s people needed to come to understand what the Church is and who should have authority and govern it. This is critical for the advance of the Church. It is very important for Christians to know how the Body of Christ comes about and how God governs it. The church is a living organism and not a mere human organization governed by the rules of men.
2. When we believed in Jesus, in addition to receiving forgiveness of sins and the divine life, which made us children of God, we were baptized by the Holy Spirit to become members of the Body of Christ. When you gave your life to Christ, you became a living member of this Body, and you are no longer an individual Christian. We all need to be conscious of this.
3. You are not merely a Christian living alone, isolated in this world, but you are a member of the Body of Christ. Our water baptism is a confirmation of the reality of the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which took place at the time of our conversion. Furthermore, it is a declaration before God, angels, men, and the church that you were baptized by the Holy Spirit when you believed and were delivered from the world to live for God in the newness of life as a member of the Body of Christ.
4. “As Jesus Christ, on the cross, blotted out our sins and their record, today we are free to be intertwined with God and with the saints. Let us ask God to enlighten our minds to see any vain subtleties that are deceiving us. Thus, we will enjoy the freedom that only the Spirit gives us and the network of love of the church in Philadelphia!”
