1. Nehemiah means “comfort of” or “comforted by God”. A man raised by God to be at the head of the difficult undertaking, which is to establish His government here on Earth, needs God’s comfort. Often, he cannot even share his sufferings with others, so he needs God’s comfort (Neh. 1:1; Ps. 119:50, 76).
2. Nehemiah’s prayer reveals to us that those whom God chooses to be at the head of His people generally do not desire a leadership position; they just have a heart to love the Lord, His people and Jerusalem. Let us keep our hearts in the purity of this love.(Neh. 1:4-11).
3. Everything we want to do, if we do not have the presence of God, we should not carry it out. No man should venture to do anything if God is not with him (Neh. 2:1-8; Exod. 33:15; Col. 3:15)
4. Christ’s responsibility is to build His church, which is also engaged in this work of building, as it is the Body of Christ. God desires this dwelling place in the spirit. Shall we give God this dwelling place?( Daily Food, Book 2, week 3, Monday, page 58).
