1. Paul commended the elders to the Lord and to the word of His grace. Where does the word come from? From the apostles. There is no such thing as isolating a church. The Body of Christ is not formed by a local church, but by all local churches that have direction and command (Acts 20:28-32).
2. The apostle has authority for edification, not for destruction. We are one people and we have one direction and government. Although there is local government to take care of local administrative matters, we have one direction and one command of the cloud. This is the command of the Lord through Moses. We are one Body and one Army (2 Cor 10:8; 13:10; 1 Tim 1:3).
3. We have to raise the walls. The importance of walls is to establish a limit, in which Christ is the head, where the Spirit exercises His authority through the word of God and through the apostles. The church is the reality of the kingdom of heaven, where the heavens rule (Nm 9; Jn 6:29; Jn 14:10).
4. The church in Jerusalem persevered in the fellowship and the doctrine of the apostles, which is what leads us to have fellowship with all the churches. The Word that John announced had an effect: it produced fellowship. By the teaching of the apostles, fellowship is produced. The apostle is not the source, but our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. The enemy wants to destroy the bond of being under one fellowship, direction, and government (Acts 2:42; 1 John 1:3).
