1. Jesus was lifted up on the cross for our sins, but He Himself was sinless. Just like the brazen serpent, had the likeness of the serpent, but not its poison, Christ had the likeness of the sinful flesh, but not the sin. We have the nature of sin and the cross is to deal with this nature, our old man.
2. The bronze, used to forge the serpent in the wilderness, symbolizes God’s judgment. Christ was judged by God, making a sin offering on our behalf. The Father’s will is done in Christ. Therefore, through those who are led by the Spirit today, God’s will prosper.
3. The snake was the most sagacious animal. Cunning and subtle, It worked in a devious way, to put doubt in our minds. Thus, it deceived Eve, Adam and all humanity, who lost their simplicity and purity. Let us not fall into the trap of doubting what God says.
4. By keeping up to date with God’s speaking, we will have a good word for edification. It is not following one’s own concept, but it is immersing oneself in the word and letting oneself be guided by the Spirit.
