- Angels, even though they are greater in strength and power than human beings, are afraid to slander higher authorities. Even the archangel Michael did not dare to pronounce slanderous judgment against God’s enemy; on the contrary, he said, “The Lord rebuke you.” We need to follow these examples in regard to all authority (2 Pet. 2:11; Jude 9).
- False teachers do not recognize authority, for they are like irrational brutes, devoid of conscience, which is a part of the human spirit. In addition to slandering, false teachers encourage others to have this same practice. This is the state that man reaches when he departs from the Word and conscience (2 Pet 2:12; Rom 7:20-23; 2:14).
- In the apostle Peter’s days, false teachers had fallen into lust, feasting on their own deceptions while feasting with Christians at the love feasts instituted by the early Christians, which were feasts connected to the Lord’s Supper. The apostle Paul comments that false teachers mingled among the brothers and sisters while feasting with eyes full of adultery and insatiable in sin (2 Pet. 2:13 14; Jude 12; 1 Cor. 11:20-22).
- God transforms our soul through the washing of the water in the word: “That He might sanctify and cleanse it by the washing of water with the word” (Eph. 5:26). Still full of elements of the old man, such as falsehood, lies, and vanity, our soul needs the washing of water by the word to be transformed (Daily Food, Book 2, Week 3, Friday, p. 50).
