- Stephen made it clear that the main reason for the exile of the people of Israel was that they did not listen to the word of God transmitted by the prophets sent by Him, starting with Moses. Moses never spoke his own word, but the living words that he had received from God to transmit to the people. Not to obey Moses was to not obey God, because it was God who commanded him to transmit the living words (Acts 7:51-52).
- What God wants to transmit to His people, which is us today, is not doctrines, but life. The circulation of the word of life gives us direction and vitality. The reason for the Babylonian captivity was the rejection of the word of God, that is, the resistance to what the Holy Spirit wants to do in the church (John 6:63).
- In every age, God sends His apostles to speak His Word, which is God’s commanding voice, which needs to be received through fellowship, instilling it in the heart through the “hearing of faith,” through immersion. Thus it governs the church, giving it direction and power to carry out God’s work with miracles (2 Pet. 1:12-15; Acts 20:17-31; 1 John 1:1-3).
- “God desires to build a spiritual house: ‘So that if I delay, you may know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth’ (1 Tim. 3:15)” (Daily Food, Book 4, Week 4, Friday, p. 66).
