1. The more we free ourselves from attachment to material things and live in the Spirit, the more sensitive we will be to God’s presence. We will not be limited by time and space but focused on doing God’s will — just like Jesus. Let us not cling to earthly things, which will one day disappear; let us cling to what is eternal, to what has spiritual value (John 5:30).
2. God’s word, truth, and presence are eternal and unchanging. Just as Satan brought darkness to the earth through his rebellion, he has spread darkness in the hearts of men, blinding them from seeing God, who is light. When we preach the gospel in the streets, we are bringing this light to hearts darkened by Satan. People need light. For there to be life, there must be light — and God is light (2 Cor. 4:1-4).
3. Not only did God restore light to the earth that day, He is also restoring light to our hearts so that we will no longer live blindly. We are to live by the light that comes from the word — Christ Himself, the Word — Who enlightens men (John 1:3-5, 8-9).
4. “What God requires of man is that he believe His word. He does not require of us ability or power; but He chose the foolish and weak and worthless things of the world to shame the wise and strong and mighty” (1 Cor. 1:26-28) (Exod. 19:5) (Daily Food, book 3, week 2, Friday, p. 32).
