- Peter and John were no longer bound by the things of the dispensation of the law but spoke of the death and resurrection of Christ. The Holy Spirit acted and worked with great power, making a man lame from birth walk. Do you want greater power than this? No one can go against what the Holy Spirit is doing (Acts 3:1-8; 4:14,22).
- Opposition arose among the Jewish leadership, who did not want to lose their position. When someone is in power, they do not want change, and usually when God speaks, changes happen, because God does not stay in the same place. The Lord wants to move forward. Those who do not want change are against God’s words (Acts 4:1-6; John 11:48).
- Peter, as he spoke, was filled with the Holy Spirit. The name of Jesus has power. The power of the name of Jesus is in the death and resurrection. Therefore, if you nullify the cross of Christ, you do not have it. The name of Jesus, whom God raised from the dead, has the power to heal. Peter and John were bold: “We cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard.” We too are witnesses (Acts 4:7-10, 13-20).
- “The Gospel of Matthew speaks of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 24:14), which consists of God making Christ the head over all things, both in heaven and on earth (Ephesians 1:9-10). Therefore, Christ must govern our lives, leading us to preach the gospel of the kingdom, so that others may be headed up by Him” (Matthew 28:18-20) (Daily Food, Book 1, Week 3, Friday, p. 52).
