1. God chose us even before we were born. He already knew if we would have a pure heart to love and serve Him. God’s election depends entirely on Him; however, the Lord already had foreknowledge of those who would follow Him even before their conception (Romans 8:29; 1 Peter 1:2).
2. Esau despised his birthright. He did not value God’s promise to Abraham, nor the blessing the Lord had bestowed upon him. The promise of inheriting the land and descendants was not in Esau’s heart. In light of this, where is our heart today? (Genesis 25:34).
3. Are our hearts set on our goals, desires for possessions, and earthly purposes, or are we like Abraham and Jacob? Even though we have many flaws, we need to yearn for and value what God desires, doing His will above all things. The Lord, who foreknew us, also chose us for this (Romans 8:29-30).
4. “The universe is not without government. God is seated on the throne and wants to govern the universe and, above all, exercise His government over the Earth” (Genesis 9:16; Revelation 11:15 17) (Daily Food, book 5, week 4, Friday, p. 68).
