1. We need to be aware that we live in a time very close to the Lord’s return. We cannot live like the generation before the flood, when everyone ate, drank, married, and were given in marriage—in other words, they went about their daily lives as if nothing important was about to happen (Matthew 24:37 39).
2. Noah proclaimed righteousness to the people of that wicked generation, calling them to repentance. None of them repented in time, so they all drowned during the flood. Today, at the end of times, the Lord wants to save us from this situation. This warning is directed primarily to God’s children, the church, so that we may receive the reward and not be left for a thousand years in outer darkness (2 Peter 2:5; Matthew 25:21, 30; 24:40-44).
3. The church, the people of God, are an army! We are in a battle of kingdoms announced immediately after the fall of man. It is the battle between the offspring of the serpent—all fallen humanity, contaminated by the sinful nature and the devil’s DNA—and the offspring of the woman: Christ, the Son of a virgin and conceived by the Holy Spirit. Thank God for redemption in Christ, for through His shedding of blood, our sins were forgiven, and in His crucifixion, our old man was also crucified (Gen. 3:15; Matt. 12:34; Rom. 7:18; Rom. 6:6).
4. Peter then defines the prophetic word as the only living word that leads the church to the Lord’s return like a lamp shining in a dark place. Without this word, the church loses direction. Today, thank God, the church has direction! We are not in the dark. We have the prophetic word that points the way and establishes God ’s government” (2 Peter 1:19) (Daily Food, book 1, week 1, Monday, p. 7).
