1. Jacob loved the birthright, the blessing, and the promises given to Abraham and to his descendants. This was his goal, and for this he fought his entire life. He had a dream in which he saw a ladder set up on the Earth, whose top reached to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. This was a very grand revelation for Jacob (Genesis 25:31-33; 28:12; Romans 9:13).
2. Jacob desired to obtain the blessing and the promises of God, but perhaps he thought they related only to earthly things. However, upon seeing in the dream the ladder that connected the Earth to heaven, he perceived that what God wanted to give him was something of another sphere—the heavenly sphere, that which proceeds from God Himself (Colossians 3:1-4).
3. Jesus is God who became incarnate and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. He became flesh to lead man to God. Through Christ, the Earth is connected to heaven—He is the Only connection with heaven. He brought the living God to Earth, and the divine life to us; all that the human being needs is this life (John 1:14, 51; Matthew 16:13-17).
4. “After he entered the land of Canaan, Abraham moved further south, to a mountain east of Bethel. There he pitched his tent between Bethel, which represents the house of God, and Ai, which represents a heap of ruins (Genesis 12:8). This means that, if you choose the blessing, you will choose the building up of the house of God and you will choose to live in the house of God” (Deuteronomy 30:19) (Daily Food, book 6, week 3, Monday, pg. 43).
