1. Today we are no longer children of darkness — we are children of light. When we walk in the light, we produce fruits of goodness, righteousness, and truth, and the Lord will be pleased with us. To walk in the light is to walk under the smile of God. But if we walk in darkness, we will not see His face with joy, for the works of darkness produce no fruit for God (Eph. 5:8-11).
2. Nothing remains hidden; what we do in secret will one day come to light. Therefore, if something might embarrass us when exposed, it is better not to do it. Time is passing —the ticking continues—and we need to redeem the time. The priority of our lives must be to do God’s will: to put Christ as head over all things (Eph. 5:12-17).
3. The things of the world—even the legitimate things—can intoxicate us, diverting us from the divine purpose. But if we are filled with the Spirit, our days will be useful for fulfilling God’s will. And how can we be filled with the Spirit? Through immersion in the Word, through war cries, and by continually instilling the Word in us. In this way, we will live to fulfill the Lord’s will (Eph 5:18-19).
4. “Paul himself said that the cross of Christ was a stumbling block to the Jews (1 Cor. 1:23). Preaching circumcision along with faith nullifies the cross of Christ. It is the cross that changes everything. It is the cross that identifies us with the death of Christ. It is through the cross of Christ that the resurrection comes, and it is also through the cross that we receive the Holy Spirit” (Gal. 2:19-21) (Daily Food, book 3, week 2, Saturday, p. 34).
