1. Within us there are two “selves”: the one that lives by the power of the flesh and the one that was resurrected with Christ. However, there is only one body and one living. Enjoying the word— immersing oneself in it, shouting war cries, sleeping and waking with God—is our salvation, so that the self in Christ may be strengthened and be able to live through the body. Let us not allow the old self to continue living in us (Galatians 2:19-20).
2. The secret to the old man dying and the new man living in newness of life, in resurrection, is to live in the Spirit. And how to live in the Spirit? The mind is the key. A mind set on the Spirit brings life and peace. The practical way to set the mind on the Spirit is through the Word. It all comes back to the Word (Romans 8:5-6; John 6:63).
3. Those who live according to the flesh cannot please God. But if we receive the word at all times, it cleanses us. The word, through the Spirit, transforms lives. Our soul will be transformed, and even our mortal body will be influenced. The Spirit rejuvenates us; the word renews us and gives us joy (Romans 8:11; Ephesians 5:26).
4. “The tree of knowledge is the tree of death, but in it there is both good and evil, that is, both come from the same root. The evil side is visible and repulsive (Romans 1:29-31), but the good side can deceive us” (Job 1:1; 42:5-6) (Daily Food, book 3, week 1, Saturday, p. 17).
