- We must have our eyes on the heavens, like Stephen’s. Even though he was stoned, he saw the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God. The Son of Man is not resting, but working on Earth, in the brokenhearted and contrite in spirit, who love His word and tremble at it, so that His will may be done (Isaiah 66: 2; Acts 7:55).
- We cannot be distracted by persecution; we must be focused on God speaking to us daily. Let us not be people zealous for the Law, but people who live in newness of life, who proclaim the gospel with boldness to the entire inhabited earth (Gal 1: 13-14; Acts 1: 8; Rom 6:4).
- Saul persecuted Christians, but his eyes were opened by the gospel of Christ. He believed in the death and resurrection of Christ and repented; then God found a way through him. Because of his steadfastness and boldness in preaching the one gospel, God is able to continue His work on Earth today (Acts 11: 22-26).
- “Until the Lord returns, let us pay attention to God’s word. It will give us direction and instruction, restoring everything that still needs to be put in order, whether it be services, our consecration to the Lord, or even repentance” (2 Tim. 3:14-17; Isaiah 55:11) (Daily Food, book 1, week 4, Sunday, p. 72).
