- How does God govern His people in practice? The answer is here: “If you will obey My voice indeed and keep My covenant…” In that answer there is a condition, there is an “if.” If we meet this condition, then God will govern. God reigns here on earth if His people meet this condition: to hear and do His word (Ex. 19:5).
- How does God exercise the authority of the Holy Spirit in the church? God’s word is a voice of command. When God’s people receive this voice of command and practice it, the authority of the Holy Spirit carries out God’s will in the church, and this frees us from human opinions and from falling into human government (Ex 19:5-6).
- After the 70 years of Babylonian captivity, the city of Jerusalem was desolate. God raised up Nehemiah to rebuild the city walls. These walls symbolize the restoration of God’s rule through His word. If we diligently hear the word of the Lord and practice it, we will submit ourselves to God’s authority and be under His rule (Neh. 2:17; Exod. 19:5).
- “True satisfaction comes as we feed our souls on the word of God. Only God, through His word, is able to satisfy man” (Jer 15:16) (Daily Food, Book 5, Week 2, Thursday, p. 31).
