- God always gives us the word faithfully, but it is up to us to have a humble heart and a contrite and repentant spirit to receive it properly. It is the hearing of faith; not in a haphazard, arrogant way, but humbly, recognizing that the word brings the Spirit, and He works miracles (Isa 66:1-2; Gal 3:2; John 6:63).
- As soon as we are converted, we are born of the Spirit. Whoever is born of the Spirit is spirit and must follow the Spirit. The Spirit does not follow logic or knowledge, but is like the wind: it blows where it wills, we hear its voice, but we do not know where it comes from or where it is going; “so is everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:2-8).
- It is the Spirit that makes the difference. If there is a method without the Spirit, nothing happens. We must always turn to the Spirit and let Him have freedom, because He is the One who works miracles among us (2 Cor 3:2-6; 3:17).
- “God brought the children of Israel to Himself that they might desire the milk of the word and grow in a new environment (Ex. 19:4, 5). He expects His people, when they hear His voice, to have reverent love for it and earnestly desire His word, as newborn babes desire their mother’s milk” (Daily Food, Book 4, Week 4, Wednesday, p. 61).
