1. Even in the face of the pressure Joseph put on his brothers, Judah presented himself before him and offered to become a slave in place of Benjamin. This act confirmed that Judah had become the leader of his entire household. He represented his father, Israel (Genesis 44:1-34).
2. Just as Judah did, we need to be servants of God who stand before the authorities of the world so that the descendants of Christ, Zion, may be preserved. We must be willing to fight for the kingdom of God, even amidst pressures and difficulties, so that the gospel may be spread (Psalm 110:3; Matthew 10: 18-20; 11: 12).
3. God does not merely desire theoretical servants who know how to speak well or have good rhetoric. He seeks servants who, in practice, take responsibility for representing God’s work on Earth (1 John 3:18).
4. “Abraham proved his faith and absolute obedience before God, so God intervened, providing a substitute. Christ is our True substitute, who gave His life as a ransom for many: “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18) (Daily Food, book 8, week 4, Saturday, p. 70).
