1. Pharaoh represents the prince of this world, who tries to enslave people. They do not realize it, but even the most successful ones are slaves. Whether rich or poor, all live under the submission to the prince of this world (Ex 5:2-14; 1 John 5:19).
2. God had already predicted to Abraham that his descendants would be sojourners and slaves in a foreign land for 430 years, but He also promised that He would liberate them and they would leave with great riches (Genesis 15:13; Exodus 12:40; Galatians 3:16-17; Acts 7:6).
3. The Lord instituted a law for the protection of the poor, in order to prevent perpetual slavery. It was the Year of Jubilee, in which all debts were forgiven, and those enslaved by debt were freed. This law shows that, unlike the world, which seeks to enslave us, God is a Liberator (Leviticus 25:8-35).
4. “Without the water of the word we cannot live. The enemy wants to cut off the supply of the word by clogging our well. As time goes by, if we do not renew ourselves, our hearts will become clogged. We need to take care of our hearts, serving the Lord!” (Eph 5:26; John 4:14; 7:37-38) (Daily Food, book 9, week 3, Saturday, p. 52).
