1. After the fall of man, all human beings became slaves to sin in Adam; but Christ came to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. The Lord Jesus brought the true jubilee to proclaim God’s liberation (Luke 4:18-19).
2. Christ came to free us from the bondage of sin and the reign of death. He came to preach the good news, heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, set the prisoners free, and comfort all who mourn. Many today are oppressed, weeping and have no one to turn to; we bring them freedom through the proclamation of the gospel (Isaiah 61:1-6).
3. True fasting is not a religious rite; rather, it is proclaiming the jubilee, it is sharing the bread of the Lord, that is, His Word, which has the power to liberate those enslaved by the prince of this world, so that the Lord may satisfy their souls and strengthen their bodies, with a view to using the liberated for His edification and His reign (Isaiah 58:3-14).
4. “In the struggle to conquer the “promised land,” we will also suffer all kinds of opposition and difficulties, and many will try to fill in our well so that we die of thirst in the desert. We cannot allow Satan to discourage us! Instead, let us unite our forces in the church, and the Lord will give us water. Let us sing songs as the people of Israel did, and the Lord will make the well of water spring forth (Numbers 21:16-18).” (Daily Food, book 9, week 3, Sunday, p. 53).
