1. God appeared to Jacob and promised to give him the Earth, assuring that He would be with him on the journey until He fulfilled all that He desired to accomplish in him. Because Jacob valued what God valued, he became the object of divine care, and his whole life came to be in the Lord’s hands. Do you want to live like this? Love what God loves; value what God values (Genesis 28:13-15).
2. When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he declared, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” No one had told him about the house of God; this was the result of divine revelation. If we want to walk in God’s way, we need Him to reveal Himself to us and grant us spiritual understanding (Genesis 28:17).
3. Christ restored man’s connection with God through His death on the cross. His blood accomplished eternal redemption, and His resurrection granted us life. Today, He desires to build His church as the house of God, making all who are redeemed members of His Body. We were called to build up, not to live in isolation (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 2:22; 1 Peter 2:5).
4. “The apostle Paul did not consider his life precious to himself […] We ask the Lord to give us this same heart, to follow Him with simplicity, striving for the kingdom. We are only His servants and we long to cooperate so that He may be the Head over all things, first and foremost over us, the church” (Acts 20:24) (Daily Food, book 6, week 4, Tuesday, p. 60).
