DAILY IMMERSION IN THE PROPHETIC WORD Thursday | Msg. 57 – Jacob Blesses Joseph’s Sons

1. Jacob considered Ephraim and Manasseh, Joseph’s sons, as his own, and they thus received a share in the inheritance. Jacob’s firstborn sons lost their birthright, and Judah was counted as the firstborn; therefore, the kingship was given to Judah. Christ, the King of the kingdom of God, is a descendant of Judah, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, to inherit the kingdom (Genesis 48:5; Genesis 49:10; 1 Chronicles 5:2; Matthew 1:2-3; Hebrews 7:14).

2. When Isaac blessed Jacob, he was old and could no longer see. Besides physical aging, Isaac had also aged spiritually; he no longer had spiritual sensitivity and confused all things. This was not the case with Jacob, who, despite being old in age and blinded in his physical eyes, had great clarity in his spiritual discernment (Genesis 27:1-35; 48:10-11).

3. Jacob testified that God had sustained him throughout his life and that he walked in God’s presence. Those who walk in God’s presence have the birthright and make God’s will happen. We can also testify that God, in whose presence we walk, is the one who has brought us to this day through His divine arrangement (Genesis 48:15).

4. “Considering the whole context, we can note Isaac’s lack of discernment and maturity in his old age. He knew of God’s choice, but still intended to give the divine blessing to the wrong son because of a natural preference. This is very serious. That is why God intervened in that situation. It is very important that we, who serve the Lord in His work, learn this important lesson about spiritual maturity and discernment” (Genesis 25:24-26) (Daily Food, book 9, week 4, Thursday, p. 65).
